Wholesome Snacks & Cereals Manufacturer Prioritizes Non-GMO Project Verification
MARLBOROUGH, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Barbara’s, known for making delicious cereals and snacks from simple, wholesome ingredients, has earned Non-GMO Project Verification for the majority of its product portfolio in less than two years and 97 percent of its products are made with Non-GMO ingredients. Shoppers nationwide will now see the “Non-GMO Project Verified” seal on 32 of Barbara’s 37 cereals and snacks, including its popular Puffins and Organic Snackimals cereal lines. The new packaging featuring the Non-GMO Project Verified seal debuted nationwide this fall, drawing attention to the strides in innovation the brand has made since 2011.
“Barbara’s has always been committed to bringing consumers only the most wholesome and simple ingredients and we’ve always listened closely to our loyal fans,” said Katrina Yolen, U.S. Director of Marketing at Barbara’s. “In a survey of our most frequent purchasers, we learned that 90 percent wanted their cereals and snacks to be GMO-free.”
The path to earning Non-GMO Project Verification wasn’t easy but the brand made it a top priority and invested heavily in the pursuit, making a company-wide commitment with R&D, Procurement, Quality, Operations, and Marketing working closely together. After enrolling its products in the process, Barbara’s learned that nearly half already met the rigorous standards for verification but that in other cases the company needed to find new Non-GMO ingredient suppliers in the United States as well as from Canada, Europe and Latin America. The rigorous verification process was completed for the lines of Puffins, Honest O’s, Morning Oat Crunch, High Fiber, Fig Bars, Multigrain Squarefuls, Snackimal Cookies and Organic Snackimals Cereals. In addition to these products, all four flavors of Barbara’s Cheese Puffs are made with Non-GMO ingredients
“Barbara’s has met or exceeded our rigorous standards for a majority of their products,” said Megan Westgate, executive director of the Non-GMO Project. “We recognize and appreciate their hard work in sourcing Non-GMO ingredients and applaud their robust efforts.”
The Non-GMO Project offers North America’s only third-party verification for Non-GMO food and products, committed to preserving and building sources of Non-GMO products, educating consumers and providing verified Non-GMO choices.
Among the latest Barbara’s products to earn the Non-GMO Project Verification are new Organic Snackimals Chocolate Crisp Cereal and Maple Brown Sugar Squarefuls. Consumers can find a complete list of all of Barbara’s Non-GMO Project Verified products at Barbaras.com, www.NonGMOProject.org, and by looking for the Non-GMO Project Verified seal on Barbara’s products in major retail grocery stores and natural food stores nationwide.
